 Devices running Android Lollipop is less likely to crash as compared to devices running the Apple iOS 8, according to data released by Crittercism. Crittercism provides mobile application performance management for enterprises to optimize their mobile businesses. It supplies up-to-date metrics of various operating system including iOS, Android, Windows Phone 8, Hybrid and HTML apps. Android 5.0 Lollipop crash rates is lower at 0.2 percent as compared with Apple iOS 8 with 2.2 percent crash rate, Crittercism said in its report. The iOS 8 also has higher crash rate at 2.2 percent as compared with the iOS 7 at 1.9 percent crash rate. When compared to earlier releases, the Lollipop still has lower crash rate at 2.0 percent. KitKat and Ice Cream Sandwich has 2.6 percent crash rate respectively. The Apple iOS 8 was released in September 2014 but it comes with some bugs that frustrated those who downloaded the operating system. Version 8.0.1 unfortunately had more bugs that prompted Apple to pull it and release 8.0.2 straight away. Apple released iOS 8.1.1 in October and iOS 8.1.2 in December. The 8.1.1 enhanced performance for the iPhone 4s and the iPad 2 while 8.1.2 provided bug fixes. Adoption rate for the iOS 8 had finally picked up to 72 percent with the release of iOS 8.1.3 that provided the much needed bugs fix. The version also addressed the demands for storage space on devices. The adoption rate for iOS 8 increased from the 68 percent rate seen in December according to CNET. On Feb 11, Motorola expanded the Android 5.0 Lollipop for Moto Maxx and Moto E. Lollipop was soak tested with Moto Maxx in Brazil and Mexico and with Moto E in Brazil and India, the company said in its announcement. Android Lollipop will first roll out with Moto Maxx and Moto E smartphones available at retail stores. “As we normally do, we’re starting by rolling out the upgrade to smaller test groups, and if the results are strong, we will expand the software to more phones,” Motorola said in a statement. It's been a long road, spanning more than two years of adversity, but Ubuntu finally has a smartphone to call home. It's called the Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition and is built by Spanish company BQ. This little-known manufacturer of tablets and e-readers is adapting one of its Android handsets to run Ubuntu and selling it for €169.90 (just over $190) in a series of flash sales across Europe. It's an unusual way to release a phone: followers of the @ubuntu and @bqreaders Twitter accounts will be the first to be alerted any time the Aquaris E4.5 UE becomes available to buy. The modest price is matched by this first Ubuntu phone's barebone spec sheet. The 4.5-inch display has only qHD resolution (540 x 960), the processor is a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek chip, there's no LTE option, and the onboard storage is limited to 8GB. To offset these restrictions, the Aquaris allows memory expansion via a microSD card and also has two micro-SIM slots for added flexibility. If there's one spec indulgence here, it's the 5-megapixel front-facing camera, which BQ highlights as a major feature on the Android variant of this phone.

Though obviously aimed at the budget-conscious phone buyer, the Ubuntu phone faces tough competition from cheaper alternatives like the excellent Moto E on Android and Microsoft's latest Lumia devices running Windows Phone. Canonical, the company in charge of Ubuntu, believes it has a unique proposition to offer with its concept of Scopes. It eschews the traditional app-based interaction model in favor of "a new UI paradigm, designed to deliver content and services directly to categorised home screens, giving users a rich, unfragmented experience." This sort of content aggregation — serving web videos from YouTube and Vimeo as well as your own recorded media on the same screen — has been tried previously and never really succeeded. Canonical is therefore embarking on a highly ambitious project, but that's to be expected from the company that once sought $32 million to build the Ubuntu Edge smartphone that never materialized.

At the outset, The Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition will feature Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, Time Out, Yelp, and Cut the Rope among its best-known partners, with Spotify, SoundCloud, and Grooveshark also being integrated via their web APIs. The Ubuntu phone "supports mainstream HTML5 beautifully," says Canonical, and the company's categorical that it's "not coming out with yet another iOS or Android clone." What you'll get is something altogether different, a fresh experience built around screen-edge interactions and tailored Scopes that aim at "reversing the hackneyed status quo." It's a bold set of promises, though it's likely to find a receptive audience in its first buyers, who will necessarily be Ubuntu fans already. 
 There will be no retail availability of the Aquaris. It will be on sale via sporadic flash sales over the coming weeks, recruiting early adopters and trying to build up into a viable mobile platform. The climb toward that goal looks as long and hazardous as Ubuntu's mobile struggles to this point, but today marks an important milestone along the way.

 The usually-reliable SamMobile website has published a new shot of Samsung’s eagerly awaited Galaxy S6 smartphone. And, as you can see, the rendering looks a lot like the design of the iPhone 6. Keep in mind that this render shows the shape of the device; the build might be metal, which would make it look even more like Apple’s new phones. The S6 is expected to make its official debut at Mobile World Conference in Barcelona at the beginning of March. The leaked photo comes from a tweet by someone named “Antonio Monaco” dated Saturday. SamMobile thinks the leak is legit: “There have been several leaks and rumors in the past, shedding the lights on its hardware as well as software, but we think that this might be our first real look at the upcoming Galaxy S6′s original design.” The home button at the bottom of the phone appears to be more raised from the surface of the phone than the Galaxy S5’s home button. The headphone jack moves to the bottom of the phone — exactly where the iPhone 6’s sits. “. . . the microUSB port are at the bottom, while the proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, and the front-facing camera seems to moved from the right hand side of the earpiece to the left hand side,” SamMobile notes. The volume buttons show up on the left side of the phone. They are two separate buttons instead of one large volume rocker button — again, just like the iPhone 6. Some Samsung fans might wonder why the biggest smartphone maker in the world would mimic the design of Apple’s phones. But there may be a big market for a phone that possesses the design beauty of the iPhone 6, but with the functionality of the Android OS inside. <a href="http://adf.ly/wEFSh" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"> StoreDot</a>, the nanotech startup behind the charger, has a new prototype that is smaller and doesn't add bulk to the actual smartphone. During Mashable's demo, the Galaxy S5 battery went from almost empty to 100% in less than two minutes. 
 It almost sounds too good to be true but StoreDot CEO Doron Myersdorf says it's because the company took a completely different approach when creating its battery. Rather than trying to improve the capacity of the battery itself, the company redesigned the internal structure of the battery so it can charge rapidly. The tradeoff for this speed is the overall battery life is shorter— the battery I saw will last about five hours.

But by cutting charging time down to a minute or two— Mysersdorf says the final product will have a recharge time of well under two minutes— recharging once or twice a day is a nonissue. 
 
"This is not trivial, it took us a lot of research," Mysersdorf said. "This is a design that is trying to achieve something that was not the goal before. Nobody thought about giving you less energy ,everybody thought about giving you more energy." 
 
There are some caveats. The battery is more expensive than typical batteries and Myersdorf anticipates the battery will add about $50 to the total cost of a phone. And though StoreDot has made prototypes that work with handsets currently on the market, smartphone manufacturers will have to make "some modifications" to their devices in order to accommodate the battery. This means it will be up to individual companies to take advantage of the technology. 
 
But on that front, Myersdorf is optimistic. The company is already in early talks with "all the big guys"— the CEO said they have already had more than a dozen meetings with potential partners during CES— and

But the company's vision goes well beyond smartphones. Myersdorf sees a future where all battery-powered devices are use these types of batteries and see electric vehicles as the next big opportunity for the company. 
 
StoreDot starting an an electric vehicles initiative with the goal of creating batteries for cars like Teslas that will recharge in lminutes rather than hours. Myersdorf said a prototype that will recharge a Tesla's battery in three minutes should be ready in about year. 
 
"This a mindset shift," he said. "Everything can be charged faster."
