Devices running Android Lollipop is less likely to crash as compared to devices running the Apple iOS 8, according to data released by Crittercism.
Crittercism provides mobile application performance management for enterprises to optimize their mobile businesses. It supplies up-to-date metrics of various operating system including iOS, Android, Windows Phone 8, Hybrid and HTML apps.
Android 5.0 Lollipop crash rates is lower at 0.2 percent as compared with Apple iOS 8 with 2.2 percent crash rate, Crittercism said in its report. The iOS 8 also has higher crash rate at 2.2 percent as compared with the iOS 7 at 1.9 percent crash rate.
When compared to earlier releases, the Lollipop still has lower crash rate at 2.0 percent. KitKat and Ice Cream Sandwich has 2.6 percent crash rate respectively.
The Apple iOS 8 was released in September 2014 but it comes with some bugs that frustrated those who downloaded the operating system. Version 8.0.1 unfortunately had more bugs that prompted Apple to pull it and release 8.0.2 straight away. Apple released iOS 8.1.1 in October and iOS 8.1.2 in December. The 8.1.1 enhanced performance for the iPhone 4s and the iPad 2 while 8.1.2 provided bug fixes.
Adoption rate for the iOS 8 had finally picked up to 72 percent with the release of iOS 8.1.3 that provided the much needed bugs fix. The version also addressed the demands for storage space on devices. The adoption rate for iOS 8 increased from the 68 percent rate seen in December according to CNET.
On Feb 11, Motorola expanded the Android 5.0 Lollipop for Moto Maxx and Moto E. Lollipop was soak tested with Moto Maxx in Brazil and Mexico and with Moto E in Brazil and India, the company said in its announcement.
Android Lollipop will first roll out with Moto Maxx and Moto E smartphones available at retail stores. “As we normally do, we’re starting by rolling out the upgrade to smaller test groups, and if the results are strong, we will expand the software to more phones,” Motorola said in a statement.
